Temelli: HDP will win on 31 March

HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli addressed the citizens of Suruç under heavy police control.

People wanting to join the HDP rally had to go through heavy police control in Suruç. A control, they said, would have prevented the Suruç Massacre when members of the Şenyaşar family were killed by AKP supporters just before the political elections last June.

HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli visited Suruç, in the province of Urfa, as part of the HDP’s electoral campaign.

The crowd met Temelli with enthusiasm and the HDP co-chair toured Suruç and the Aligor neighborough in a convoy.

The HDP’s coloured and noisy convoy was stopped several times by police and finally reached the rally area.

A large crowd was waiting for Temelli together with HDP MPs, party executives, DTK Board member Selim Sadak and DBP co-chair Mehmet Arslan.

HDP Suruç Municipality co-mayor candidates Hatice Çelik and Abdullah Kayar greeted the people. "We are coming for democracy, peace and freedom" they said.

In his speech, HDP co-chair Temelli said: I am greeting Suruç here, but the people of Suruç are not here, they are behind those barriers, undergoing the fifth police control. If foreign press were here, they would think we are doing a rally for the security forces. This country needs social peace."

Temelli talked about Suruç massacre and said: “Where were you [security forces] that day? If you had taken security measures that day, that massacre might have been prevented. Where were you that day? We did not forget the Şenyaşar family. We are here, you will go and take with you the State-appointed trustee.”

Temelli added: “In Suruç we will get 90% of votes and send our message to Ankara.”

Addressing the government, Temelli said: “You said there are no problems in this country. You are the only problem of this country. We are the hope of this country.”

After Suruç, the HDP co-chair set out to join a rally in Viranşehir district.
