Tabqa’s Watani Hospital back in service after 7 years

Watani Hospital, the largest hospital in Northern Syria and second largest in Syria in general, has been reopened for public use by the Health Committee. The hospital in Tabqa gives hope to many sick people.

Watani hospital had been out of service for some 7 years due to the ISIS invasion in Tabqa, during which time it was used as a military base, and was targeted by the Syrian regime several times. The hospital is back in service now after the city was liberated from gangs.

Tabqa Executive Council Co-chairs Şiyar Mihemed and Hind El Eli, Tabqa Judiciary Council Co-chair Hamid El Ferec, Martyrs’ Families Association and Domestic Affairs members and several members of the Tabqa Civilian Administration participated in the opening ceremony.

Following a minute’s silence, Co-chair Newres Ibrahim gave a speech in the name of the Tabqa Health Committee. Ibrahim spoke about their joy that the hospital is back in service.

Ibrahim said the Watani Hospital has been made ready logistically, and that they are still lacking some equipment in the hospital, and that the equipment they do have have been provided by the Kurdish Red Crescent Heyva Sor A Kurd.

Ibrahim called on international health institutions for aid for the Watani Hospital.

The Health Committee had started repair efforts for the hospital in February with help from an international aid organization, but the repairs took longer than scheduled due to the extent of damage the building suffered during clashes, and most of the water and sewage network had been destroyed.
