Sydney celebrates Rojava Revolution

A celebration was held in Sydney, Australia for the anniversary of the Rojava Revolution. The celebration organized by the Democratic Kurdish Society Center (DKTM) saw participation from political party representatives, MPs, Kurdish people and allies.

The event started with a minute’s silence and later, co-chairs of the Democratic Kurdish Society Federation and Democratic Kurdish Society Center (DKTM) gave speeches. Speakers said the Rojava Revolution is a budding new hope for the peoples of the world.

Australian Greens MP Jaime Parker said, “It is an honor for me to be with you on such a momentous day. I salute the Rojava Revolution, and speak to you under the posters of Mr. Ocalan and the martyrs. YPG and YPJ forces have defended humanity against ISIS barbarism and terrorism.”

Parker condemned the Turkish state’s invasion attacks and genocidal attempts in Afrin and said the state wants to do the same throughout Kurdistan today.

Parker said they object to Australia including the PKK in the terrorist organizations list and said: “PKK is waging a struggle for freedom against the regressive ISIS barbarism today. Mr. Ocalan should have his freedom as soon as possible.”

Another speech was given in the name of Socialist Unity and a YPJ commander spoke to the crowd over video conferencing. Artist Hozan Xanemir played a concert at the event.
