Swedish parliament asks to find ways to deliver aid to Rojava

The Swedish Left Party underlined the difficulties of sending humanitarian aid to North and East Syria and asked the Swedish Foreign Aid Minister to find ways to deliver aid.

Swedish Left Party Member Yasmine Poiso brought the lack of humanitarian aid to to North and East Syria and Rojava to the agenda of the parliament with a written question proposal.

In the motion presented to Foreign Aid Minister Peter Eriksson, Poiso recalled that in autumn 2019 Turkey attacked North-East Syria provoking the displacement of thousands of people from their land.

Urgent situation

"Syria has urgent need for humanitarian aid. Sweden has provided economic aid during the clashes, but now the situation is once again urgent again," Poiso said.

The Swedish government had agreed to sent North East Syria aid for 100 million crowns soon after the attacks carried out by Turkey on 9 October 2019, reminded Poiso. However reaching the Kurdish region is proving extremely difficult and at times impossible, the deputy said.

Poiso asked Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Eriksson to find ways to ensure the delivery of aid.
