Swedish MP: “Turkey’s abuse of Interpol must be prevented”

Swedish MP Amineh Kakabawe took the detention of Saleh Muslim to the Parliament and demanded that Turkey’s abuse of the Interpol be prevented.

Left Party MP Amineh Kakabawe took the detention of former PYD Co-chair Saleh Muslim’s detention in Czechia to the Swedish Parliament with a written inquiry.

Kakabawe pointed out that Turkey is using the Interpol in Europe and many other places throughout the world to silence and pressure the opponents of the Erdoğan regime, and said: “The duty of the Interpol has never been to pressure opponents of regimes in other countries, and it shouldn’t be.”

Kakabawe asked Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström what they plan to do in the face of Turkey using the Interpol as a tool to pressure opponents.

HAMZA YALÇIN REMOVED FROM WANTED LIST

Meanwhile writer Hamza Yalçın, who was detained in Spain on Turkey’s demand in mid-2017 and was released after staying 3 months in a prison, has been removed from the Interpol wanted list.

In a news story the Swedish news agency TT passed on to their subscribers, Yalçın’s lawyer Baltasar Garson reported that their legal appeals to the Interpol had been successful and Yalçın was removed from the Interpol wanted list.

Yalçın spoke to TT and said he will be pressing charges against and demanding compensation from the Turkish state and the Interpol for unjustly serving three months in prison.

Yalçın’s detention in Barcelona in June last year had created great outrage. Journalists, writers and NGOs in Sweden had organized campaigns and protests for his release.

The issue had been taken to the European Union’s agenda by a European MP and the MP demanded that the EU take action to prevent Turkey’s abuse of the Interpol.
