Swedish Greens MEP: Accept Guven’s rightful demand

Solidarity with Leyla Güven is growing as she continues her hunger strike for the 76th day.

Swedish politician Bodil Ceballos, a member of the European Parliament, demanded that the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan be lifted. Ceballos said DTK Co-chair Leyla Guven’s health has reached a worrying stage after 76 days of indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike.

In her recorded video, Ceballos said: “If Turkey was a state with democracy and rule of law like they claim, you wouldn’t have to go on a hunger strike. If there was democracy, you wouldn’t be in prison, you would be in the parliament on duty. You wouldn’t have had to fight to end the isolation against Abdullah Ocalan. In democracies, prisoners are allowed to meet with their lawyers and families. Turkey is not a democracy. That is why your struggle is necessary. I am concerned for your health.”
