A checkpoint of Iraqi police was targeted by a suicide attack in the town of Abasi in Hawija district of Kirkuk. According to security sources, at least two policemen died and one other got wounded in the attack.

According to reports, the assailant in police uniform approached the checkpoint in a car and then detonated himself. The explosion caused great material damage to the surrounding area.

While the attack has not been claimed yet, an investigation has been launched into the incident.

A previous explosion in Kirkuk on July 31 had left a person dead and two others wounded.
