VAN

17 political prisoners who ended their death fasts were taken to the Van Regional Research and Training Hospital and the 100. Yil Dursun Odabasi Medical Center in 5 ambulances.

The gendarmerie and the police have blockaded the hospitals and have been checking IDs for citizens coming in.

The death fasters were taken to the 100. Yil Dursun Odabasi Medical Center where they refused treatment, stating that the hospital conditions were bad. They were taken back to the prison. The 4 prisoners who were taken to the Regional Research and Training Hospital are receiving treatment.

Van TUYAD-DER Co-chair Onder Sogukbulak said the conditions in the 100. Yil Medical Center was so bad that the death fasters had to refuse treatment. Sogukulak also said 306 hunger strikers will be taken to hospitals to receivve treatment.

ISTANBUL

Prisoners in the Bakirkoy Type L Closed Women’s Prison were not referred to the hospital. Their lawyers met with the prison warden and said, “As the Warden told us, the Medical Center 17 under the Ministry of Health was brought to the prison. They said all tests have been done and prisoners were put on IV drips, so there is no need to refer them to doctors. But we insist on prisoners being referred to hospitals.”

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs have been visiting prisons and getting information on the prisoners.

AMED

With the hunger strikes ending, DTK Co-chair Leyla Guven, who had started her hunger strike in prison and continued to day 200 after she was released, was hospitalized and placed under treatment with the other 3 HDP MPs Dersim Dag, Tayip Temel and Murat Sarisac as well as the other hunger strikers outside.

Aside from Leyla Guven and the 3 HDP MPs continuing their hunger strikes in Amed, Ismet Yildiz, Sevican Yasar, Salih Tekin, Bilal Ozgezer, Mustafa Yildiz and Naime Celik from Amed, Gurbet Ektiren, Mahsun Sen, Murat Aksin, Halef Yigit and Ahmet Ongun from Mardin, Sedat Akin from Batman, and Husnu Kilinc and Hedile Ogur from Urfa were taken to private hospitals in the city and are receiving treatment. There are 18 people under treatment, 4 of them MPs.

Only 21 of the 221 prisoners who had been on hunger strikes (5 of them on death fasts) have been hospitalized from the Diyarbakir Type D Closed Prison. The 21 prisoners are under treatment in the Gazi Yasargil Research and Training Hospital.

The death fasters already hospitalized are Ahmet Topkaya, Ferhat Turgay, Abdulhalik Kaplan, Enver Donmez and Engin Akhan.

The hunger strikers under treatment are: Recep Bal, Adnan Yigittekin, Bahattin Demir, Mazlum Dilek, Faruk Akbay, Firat Ertunc, Mahsum Sanolan, Evin Kaya, Kibriye Evren, Hilal Olmez, Kumri Tokay, Sercan Gumus, Nimettullah Cinkilic, Ridvan Kaya, Hayati Ozmen and Cuneyt Aslan. A special ward has been set up on the 10th floor of the hospital for the hunger strikers and their treatment continues.

Hunger strikers were brought to the hospital in handcuffs with vans, and were let inside through the morgue doors. The prisoners were not allowed contact with their relatives in front of the hospital, and some were battered by the police after they were let in. The soldiers battering the prisoners flashed the families witnessing the event a hand gesture for the nationalist Grey Wolves.

Recep Bal, Adnan Yigittekin, Bahattin Demir, Mazlum Dilek, Faruk Akbay, Firat Ertunc and Mahsum Sanolan were battered, which was met with protest from the families and citizens who gathered at the hospital.

The 21 prisoners will start receiving treatment after the results of their tests come out. The families continue to wait in front of the hospital.

BATMAN

32 prisoners in the Batman Type M Closed Prison who had been on a hunger strike since March 23 are not offered treatment yet despite ending their protest.

The prisoners have submitted a p

etition to the prison administration but their appeal was not accepted yet. MPs, lawyers and Batman Bar Association officials tried to contact the prison administration until late last night to ensure treatment for the prisoners but the prison prosecutor could not be reached, which delayed their referral to the hospital.

ANKARA

4 hunger strikers in the Sincan Closed Women’s Prison received medical examinations in the Sincan Prison Campus Hospital. According to the Central Crisis Desk set up by the Turkish Medical Association (TTB), Health and Social Workers Union (SES), Human Rights Foundation Turkey (TIHV) and Human Rights Association (IHD), Suheyla Tas, Saliha Taskesen, Zeliha Ustabas and one anonymous prisoner were sent back to the prison after their examinations. The prisoners will be taken to the same hosptal today for a checkup.

CANKIRI

5 prisoners who ended their hunger strikes in the Cankiri Prison and the 3 prisoners in the Amasya Prison were referred to hospitals to be examined.

The Crisis Desk announces several problems with referrals to hospitals in many cities. SES Co-chair Gonul Erden said they don’t know the state of the hunger strikers because no independent committees were allowed into the prisons during the hunger strikes. Erden added that it is important for all hunger strikers to be taken to hospitals and have their tests done, as well as their first interventions started in the hospitals.

KOCAELI

Former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Selma Irmak and Sebahat Tuncel were taken to the Kocaeli Seka Public Hospital from the Kandira Prison along with 18 hunger strikers. HDP Kocaeli MP Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu visited the hospitalized hunger strikers.

Gergerlioglu later announced that Tuncel and Irmak are well but they have lost weight. Gergerlioglu said: “I went to the Seka Public Hospital. I met with Selma and Sebahat. They were OK but they had lost weight. Their bloodwork was good. The doctors referred all the prisoners in good condition to a nutrition clinic.”

URFA

12 hunger strikers in the Urfa Type T Closed Campus Prison were taken to the Urfa Research and Training Hospital. 10 of the prisoners had started hunger strikes on January 5, and the other two had started on March 1. Human Rights Association (IHD) Prisons Commission issued a statement and said the hunger strikers in need of medical attention were referred to the Urfa Research and Training Hospital.

SIVEREK

6 prisoners who ended their hunger strike that started on January 5 are receiving treatment in the Siverek Public Hospital. Out of the prisoners under treatment, the ones whose IDs are known are Sunay Yaman, Sozdar Cicek, Ayten Tikit and Serhat Yilmaz.

Meanwhile, IHD Prisons Commission member lawyers announced that there were 26 indefninite nonalternating hunger strikers in the Siverek Type T Prison and that the 6 prisoners whose condition was critical were hospitalized at first. The rest of the prisoners are expected to be referred today.

SIRNAK

All of the 22 prisoners who ended their hunger strikes yesterday in the Sirnak Type T Closed Prison were taken to the Sirnak Public Hospital yesterday evening.

HDP Sirnak MP Nuran Imir and a delegation from the SES Sirnak Chapter met with the doctor treating the hunger strikers late at night. HDP’s Imir said they were told that no prisoners were at critical risk and that the treatment continues under guidelines published by the Turkish Chambers of Medicine (TTB)

Imir said they will continue to monitor the situation and added that all prisoners were released from the hospital late at night to be sent back to the prison.
