Seventeen youngsters arrested in Ankara

Seventeen out of the forty four youngsters, who were detained at the Youth Culture Center during the police raid in Ankara on 27 November with the allegation that there will be a celebration for 32nd anniversary of the creation of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party)”, were arrested.

Among the 44 detainees, who were taken away at the police raid on Youth Culture Center, 31 were brought to justice. While 17 were arrested and sent to prison, 14 were released on condition of legal prosecution.

Most of them being students, 44 detainees were brought to Ankara Courthouse yesterday at morning hours. While 31 were sent into court with arrest demand, after giving statements to public prosecutors; 13 were released.

The detainees were taken from courthouse to Sincan Prison with police vehicles at around 03.30 and chanted Kurdish slogans while leaving the courthouse.  

On the other side, BDP, EMEP, SDP, EHP, ÖDP, TÖP, Halkevleri, KESK Ankara Branches Platform, Human Rights Association and university students condemned the detention terror of police with a press statement in front of Ankara Courthouse yesterday.

During the statement, demonstrators carried a banner “Stop the arrest and detention terror of AKP” and placards “Freedom for young people under detention”.
