Series of suicide attacks in Syria: At least 40 dead

ISIS has carried out several suicide attacks in the Syrian-controlled city of Suwayda. At least 40 people were killed.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), at least 40 people have been killed and dozens injured in suicide attacks in southern Syria. Following the attacks in the city of Suwayda, which is completely under the control of the Syrian state, the Islamic State also attacked the surrounding villages.

ISIS groups are present in the desert in the northeast of Suwayda and carries out its attacks from there. According to the SOHR, Wednesday’s attacks are the most massive ISIS attacks in months. The militarily largely defeated ISIS remains only in small areas.

The Suwayda Governorate is located near Dara and Quneitra, of which 90 percent is under the control of the Syrian regime.

The Syrian television reports on the launch of an operation to push back the ISIS. The SOHR writes of air raids against the ISIS’ movement areas in the region.
