Second police operation targets MEBYA-DER

A second operation targeting MEBYA-DER has been carried out 4 days after the first. Many people, including 81-year-old Şehmus Türk, were detained following raids carried out by Turkish police.

A second operation targeting MEBYA-DER, the solidarity association for families who have lost relatives in the Kurdish liberation struggle, has been carried out 4 days after the first. The association’s co-chairs, members and managers have been taken into custody in Amed on February 27. In the second operation, 81-year-old MEBYA-DER executive Şehmus Türk was taken into custody together with Yıldız Damla, Ayşe Tutmaz, Halime Topuz and Sait Börta following raids in their houses.

Those detained were taken to the Diyarbakır Police Headquarters.

11 people in custody for 4 days

The 11 people detained on February 27, MEBYA-DER co-chairs Şeyhmus Karadağ and Yüksel Almas, executives Zeki Dağ and Ayşe Çelikbilek, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Amed Provincial Director Hatice Güneş, DBP Bağlar District Administrator Tahir Gül, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Kayapınar District co-chair Hanım Altındağ, HDP Sur District Organization's former executive Murat Üzgün, HDP Amed Provincial former executive Hafiz Işık, MEYA-DER Director Muzaffer Ulaş, have been held in Diyarbakır Police Headquarters for 4 days.

MEBYA-DER executive, Meryem Soylu, 79, and Hatun Aslan, 71, who were taken into custody the same day, were remanded in custody on Tuesday on the allegation of "membership of a terrorist organization". Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Bağlar District executive Fetullah Işık was released under judicial control.
