A Representation Office of the Rojava, West Kurdistan administration has been opened in Sweden's capital city Stockholm with a ceremony attended by MPs, NGO representatives and hundreds of people from Kurdistan, Turkey and Sweden.
Tev-Dem Co-chair Sinem Muhammed and Assyrian National Council Chair Bassam İshak cut the ceremonial ribbon. YPJ Commander Nesrin Abdullah, Cizire Canton Foreign Minister Abdulkerim Omar and the Greens Foreign Policy Representative Valter Mutt attended the ceremony.
Cizîr Canton Foreign Minister Abdulkerim Omar gave a speech after PYD Sweden representative Şiyar Ali greeted the attendees and said the Rojava representation office was home to not only Kurds, but all oppressed peoples, Assyrian, Armenian, Ezidi and all other peoples who are under oppression.
Assyrian National Council Chair Bassam İshak said he was honored to be opening the Rojava representation office and continued to say the true fight for freedom against ISIS gangs in Syria was fought by the Democratic Forces of Syria, headed by the YPG which includes Arabs, Kurds and Assyrians.
Green Party Foreign Policy Representative and Parliament Foreign Relations Commission member Valter Mutt said they are honored by Rojava opening an embassy in Sweden’s capital Stockholm.
Mutt said, “This place is called a bureau, but it is an embassy that fights for all humanity and tries to implement beautiful ideas and ideals.” and stated that the Kurdish guerillas have shown great success against ISIS gangs because they have half the humanity, in other words, the women, behind them.
Mutt emphasized that Nesrin Abdullah and the YPJ have played a grand role in defeating ISIS and said “This is why we thank you. Not just as Sweden but also in the name of Europe and the world.” Mutt stated that Rojava can’t receive the international support she deserves due to the lack of state status and said “I promise to fight to change this as a politician. Necessary support should be provided for Rojava without the need for mediation by the UN.”
After the opening ceremony, Tev-Dev Co-chair Sinem Muhammed, Assyrian National Council Chair Bassam İshak, YPJ Commander Nesrin Abdullah held a joint press conference. Swedish media showed great interest in the conference and several journalists interviewed Nesrin Abdullah.
We asked the MPs who attended the ceremony what they thought about the developments in Rojava and Turkey’s Rojava policies.
Greens Foreign Policy Representative and Parliament Foreign Relations Commission member Valter Mutt said the Turkish state was in contradiction to the fight against ISIS gangs by the US, Europe and all of humanity.
Mutt said, “YPG and YPJ are the only military force that is fighting ISIS. This is why Turkey should be supporting the Kurdish forces, not fight against them. Erdoğan helps ISIS by attacking YPG.” and answered our question about the attacks on the self-government resistances in Northern Kurdistan as follows:
“European Union has unfortunately designated Erdoğan as the EU’s border patrol. The goal is to stop refugees from Iraq and Syria from reaching Europe. So, the massacres and human rights violations against Kurds in Turkey are ignored. Erdoğan is committing genocide in South Eastern Anatolia. Cities are sieged, the people are arrested and shot. The outside world should react to this and put pressure on Erdoğan.”
Social Democrat Party Dalarna Region Ombudsman Evin Çetin stated that it is very important that the Rojava representatives opened the office in Sweden and said “The struggle in Rojava is not limited only to the rights of Kurds, it is also a struggle for democracy. It is very positive that hundreds of people are here at the opening. When I was in Kobanê one year ago, I couldn’t even dream that opening a representation office here would be possible. But the struggle of the Kurds was praised by the whole world. The Swedish Prime Minister mentioned the Kurds’ struggle in Rojava and Kobanê in the opening speech of the parliament. I am honored by this, and before all, the struggle of YPG and YPJ in Kurdistan.”
The Left Party MP Daniel Riazat stated that he finds it important that the representation office was opened and went on to say:
“I am here so my comrades who achieved great success in Rojava can achieve greater successes. I am here to support the struggle in Rojava in both my own name and the name of my party. Turkey is playing a dirty game and is supporting the organisations that commit anti-democratic and terrorist crimes against the Kurdish people. Turkey should change its hostile attitude towards Rojava.”
Greens MP Jabar Amin stated that he was glad that Rojava cantons opened a bureau in Stockholm and went on to express his protest against Turkey’s hostile attitude towards Rojava as follows:
“Turkey’s direct and indirect support to ISIS, them allowing passage for Jihadis and sending them arms should be condemned. There are a lot of documents and photographs that prove this. All parties in the Swedish parliament should take a stand against Erdoğan’s attitude. Erdoğan is waging terror on Kurds and Armenians in Sur, Mardin and Nusaybin. He is sending arms to ISIS. He has to stop. My message to the people of Rojava and Başur is: Resist, we are with you.”
