Right candidate Ivan Duque new President of Colombia

In the second round of the presidential election, the right wing candidate beats centre left Gustavo Pedro

Ivan Duque, 41 years old, lawyer is the new president of  Colombia. The right wing, the 'uribismo' (followers of former president Alvaro Uribe) is then back in power.

With 54% of the votes he has beaten the centre-left candidate, Gustavo Pedro, who got 41.8% of the votes.

It is bad news for Colombia, indeed. And it is bad news for the Final Peace Agreement signed in November 2016 by the old government of president Juan Manuel Santos and the guerrillas of the FARC-EP.

What will happen now remains to be seen, as Duque has been careful in his tones and comments about the peace agreement, precisely to not lose votes with reactionary and strong anti-peace positions.
