Rete Kurdistan Italy on the 40th anniversary of the PKK

"The ideas of the PKK and its President Abdullah Öcalan have been able to transform the political framework of Kurdistan and the Middle East."

A statement was released the Kurdistan Italia Network on the 40th anniversary of the founding of the PKK.

On the 40th anniversary of its founding, the Kurdistan Workers' Party - PKK has returned to the media's attention because of the US decision to put a bounty on three Party leaders and co-founders, said the Rete Kurdistan statement.

The statement added: “Much less attention was received by the ruling of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, which ruled that the PKK between 2014 and 2017 was illegitimately included in the EU list of terrorist organizations”.

Rete Kurdistan added: “It is time to put an end to the persecution of those who fought for the liberation of their own people, the defense of their culture and language, and ultimately their own survival, as was the case in 2014 when the PKK guerrilla forces along with the Syrian units of the YPG and YPJ, defeated DAESH in Shengal and saved the population from the genocide as they did in Kobane“.

Over the past 40 years, the statement added, “the ideas of the PKK and its President Abdullah Öcalan have been able to transform the political framework of Kurdistan and the Middle East. In particular, - continued the statement - from the historical resistance of Kobane and Afrin in the North of Syria against DAESH and other jihadist groups, for a growing number of people in the world the project of Democratic Confederalism, based on the liberation of women, ecology and peaceful co-existence among peoples in mutual respect, has become a source of inspiration”.

The statement ended by underlining how “the revolutionary project in Rojava is the result of the "democratic confederalism", the political philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan, which is being implemented daily through the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria. This evolution of Kurdish politics is a success of the PKK and the extraordinary foresight of its leader Abdullah Öcalan, founder and President of the party who, after 20 years of incarceration in a state of ferocious isolation, still enjoys the trust and support of his people”.
