Police shot a soldier dead in Diyarbakir

A Turkish soldier Cemal Yalýn who was claimed to have been killed in a clash by the Kurdish guerrillas was reported to have been killed by a police officer by mistake.

A Turkish soldier Cemal Yalýn was initially reported to be killed by the Kurdish guerrillas who laid an ambush on Dicle Gendarmerie District Base on 5 August. However, the investigation launched by the Diyarbakir Specialised Prosecutor Office indicated that the soldier was shot by the police officers by mistake.

The autopsy report and the witness statements as well as the testimonies of four police officers revealed that the soldier who was in plain clothes at the day of the ambush was killed by the policemen on account of being suicide bomber.

The testimonies stated: “After the ambush started some soldiers who were in plain clothes wanted the take shelter at the police directorate. The killed soldier was running towards the building. However, the guards at the door perceived the car belonged to the soldier as a bomb-laden car and the soldier Yalin as a suicide bomber. While the soldiers in the car have not injured Yalin was shot in the chest.”

It is reported that while the bullets and cartridge cases were have been sent to laboratory for ballistic examination the images from security cameras were also sent to the prosecutor office.
