Mehmet Nezir Aslan released after 30 years of imprisonment

After serving 30 years in prison, Mehmet Nezir Aslan was warmly welcomed in his hometown of Batman.

Following his release on 14 May from the Konya Ereğli High-Security Closed Prison after 30 years of incarceration, Mehmet Nezir Aslan was welcomed in the village of Xıncıka (Diktepe), in Batman (Êlih).

The welcome ceremony, featuring torches and doves, was attended by a large crowd including provincial and district officials from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), members of the Batman Peace Mothers Assembly, representatives of the Association for Solidarity with Families of Prisoners (TUAY-DER), and Aslan’s relatives.

Speaking at the event, DEM Party Provincial co-chair Songül Korkmaz said: "We are going through a historic period. We hope this process ends with peace. The struggle for freedom, given by all our friends who lost their lives and comrades still in prison, will reach its goal. We hope the release of our comrade contributes to the freedom of all political prisoners, starting with Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan."
