PKK ban protested in Schengen

A demonstration was held in the town of Schengen in Luxembourg to protest the PKK ban in Germany.

A demonstration was held in the town of Schengen in Luxembourg to protest the inclusion of the PKK in the “terrorism list” in Germany. Action Aktion 3 Welt Saar e.V and Saarländischer Flüchtlingsrat e.V. administrators attended the protest.

Protesters held a banner that had flags of the 11 Kurdish institutions banned in Germany and photographs of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. They crossed the Mosel River into Germany.

Participants crossed the border between Luxembourg and Germany 25 times, holding the banner that falls under the ban in Germany, to protest 25 years of the PKK ban. They also cut off traffic briefly to condemn the ban.

Action 3 Welt Saar administrator Roland Röder gave a speech in the name of the protesters and said, “We are here to say that this ban is wrong and we don’t accept it. On the 25th anniversary of the PKK ban, we are violating the border between Germany and Luxembourg 25 times with the Kurdish symbols banned in Germany. Right now, we are in the middle of the border. The PKK is not banned in Luxembourg, but it is on the German side. There is a one meter difference in the ban. Germany bans the PKK because ‘it is dangerous’, but Luxembourg doesn’t. So the PKK isn’t that dangerous. If it was, Luxembourg and other countries would also ban it. This decision was taken in the wrong yesterday, and this wrong continues today. So we say, let’s fix this wrong. Lift the PKK ban now. The then-Interior Minister Manfred Kanter had a great role in the decision for the PKK ban. Unfortunately, Manfred Kanter, who signed this decision, stood trial for millions of unjust donations to the CDU and for fraud, and was convicted.”
