People of Sheikh Maqsoud protest the isolation of Öcalan

People of Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood staged a march in order to salute the İmralı resistance and protest the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The hunger strike that TEV-DEM members had launched to protest the intensified isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Prison ended today with a march in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. People of Sheikh Maqsoud gathered at the Families of Martyrs Institution building to support those joining the hunger strike and join the march for Öcalan. Participants of the hunger strike announced the end of their action here. TEV-DEM Assembly Executive Council members Bedran Hemo and Sakîne Mihemed read out loud the Kurdish and Arabic texts prepared for the march.

In the texts prepared for the march, the protestors noted that all peoples resist in order to protect their values, and emphasized that the imprisonment of Öcalan aims to destroy peace and democratic solution in the Middle East. The protestors promised that their struggle would continue until the freedom of Öcalan and other prisoners is secured, and marched to the eastern part of Sheikh Maqsoud where the march ended with a rally.

Sheikh Maqsoud Joint Assembly Co-president Mirî Şiblî and TEV-DEM Assemby Co-president Hêvî Silêman spoke during the rally and condemn the silence of the international community towards the Turkish state’s isolation of Öcalan. The rally ended with slogans saluting Öcalan and his resistance on İmralı.
