An OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) delegation visited the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) yesterday. The agenda of the meeting was election security for June 24.

The OSCE Election Observation Mission was received by HDP Group Deputy Chairperson Meral Danış Beştaş, Izmir MP Ertuğrul Kürkçü and Mardin MP Ali Atalan.

The meeting was held yesterday (May 8, Tuesday) in the Parliament and lasted one hour. Concerns on the inability to ensure election security under State of Emergency conditions and the possibility of increased pressure in rural areas with a high Kurdish population in particular like in previous elections were discussed in the meeting.

The delegation also mentioned that HDP’s presidential candidate Demirtaş being forced to campaign from prison creates unjust competition which will damage the legitimacy of the election.
