Nursel Aydoğan: The Kurdish question cannot be solved without Abdullah Öcalan

Former MP Nursel Aydoğan said that the Oslo and İmralı talks process showed that the Kurdish question cannot be solved without the involvement of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The situation of Abdullah Öcalan is a yardstick for the developments regarding the Kurdish question and the democratisation of Turkey. Öcalan's total isolation under conditions of incommunicado, which has lasted for three and a half years, is accompanied by an escalation of Turkish attacks, a fascisation of Turkish politics and a massive intensification of repression. This climate began in 2015, after the Turkish state unilaterally broke off talks with Abdullah Öcalan and the peace process and proceeded to raze Kurdish towns to the ground.

In an interview with ANF, former HDP MP Nursel Aydoğan in exile commented on the developments and stressed that: “The AKP-MHP's policy of non-solution will not yield any results. Returning to a solution and peace process as soon as possible is the only way out, not only for the Kurds but also for all the peoples of Turkey.”

Nursel Aydoğan said that they are struggling and are in favour of peace and a solution. She noted that they are aware of the difficulty of the struggle for peace and solution in the current situation and the difficulty of getting results.

The former MP said they can see that it is difficult to expect a solution and peace in a process that continues with Ergenekon, MHP and other partners and said “The Kurdish question is not only a problem of Turkey, but also of the Middle East and the world powers, especially the powers that have plans on the Middle East. We always believe that it is the people's power that will lead the Kurdish question to a solution and peace. Of course, there are also external factors and foreign powers; these are also important. The struggle of the Kurdish people together with their friends, left, socialist and democratic forces who want a solution and peace will be decisive.”

Nursel Aydoğan remarked that people and forces all over the world now know that this issue must be solved and that it is not possible for Turkey not to see this: “Both the Oslo and İmralı talks prove that they know this and that the issue cannot be solved without İmralı and Mr Öcalan's involvement in this process.

The whole world knows that the Kurdish question cannot be solved without Abdullah Öcalan, said Nursel Aydoğan and continued: “Both the Oslo and Imralı talks prove that this is known, and that the problem cannot be solved without Mr Öcalan's participation. But there is a rollback on this issue. They want to develop a new process that completely rejects the past and is based on this rejection. I think that the AKP-MHP and Ergenekon partnership will not get any result from this. Returning to a solution and peace process as soon as possible is the only way out, not only for the Kurds but for all the peoples of Turkey, for a country whose economy is gradually deteriorating and which has become one of the countries with the most unhappy people in the world.”
