Nine Kurds were sent to prison by Turkish courts for alleged membership of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Bitlis and Hakkari yesterday.
In Tatvan, a district of Bitlis province 17 Kurds were detained by Turkish police in house raids last week. Van High Criminal Court arrested eight of the Kurds and all were sent to Van F Type Prison. Syndicalists Yuksel Ozan, Sedar Guler, Ferhat Koc and journalist Sinan Aygul are among the arrested.
In Hakkari, a local named Ismet Derer is also arrested for alleged support to Kurdistan Worker Party.
On the other hand 22 demonstrators were detained in Agri during demonstrations for bilingual life campaign. The detained are expected to appear before court tomorrow.
