This year's Newroz (Kurdish New Year) celebration in the Şehit Kamil district of Antep was organized under the slogan "Rabe dema azadî û serkeftinê ye" (Stand up, now is the time for freedom).

Thousands of people gathered from the early hours of the morning and enjoyed the Newroz celebration with the participation of women and young people.

Traditional costumes attracted attention, as well as yellow, red and green banners highlighting the meaning of Newroz for the Kurdish people, accompanied by slogans demanding freedom for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Speaking on behalf of the Newroz Organizing Committee, DEM Party Antep Co-Chair Mehmet Satan started his speech by greeting the participants and emphasized that Newroz is a symbol of resistance.

Drawing attention to the anniversary of the Halabja Massacre, Mehmet Satan emphasized that "all dictators will end up like Saddam.”

DEM Party PM Member Mehmet Bozgeyik stated that those who usurp the will of the people will be buried in the ballot box in the March 31 local elections.

Referring to the economic crisis, Bozgeyik stated that the people are impoverished and the rent-seeking approach must come to an end.

While the Babetna band took the stage at the celebration, Kasım Karataş, who was released after 33 years of imprisonment, made a speech. Karataş said, "My resisting friends greet you with revolutionary feelings. Be their voice. You are their hope. Our friends are resisting and will resist. If you stand with them, they will win. We need to enhance the resistance with a spirit of unity. If we strengthen our unity, we will embrace our comrades in prison."
