The 24th Musa Anter and Free Press Martyrs Journalism Awards were given in Cegerxwîn Culture Center in Amed. DBP Co-President Sebahat Tuncel, Adana Parliamentarian Meral Danış Beştaş, DTK Co-President Leyla Güven, Amed Parliamentarian Çağlar Demirel, Amed Co-Mayors, journalists from Turkey and Kurdistan, Peace Mothers, KJA, MEYADER members and many others participated in the award ceremony.
Free Journalists Association Co-President Nevin Erdemir spoke during the ceremony and recalled “There have been heavy attacks against journalists in the aftermath of the war in Kurdistan over the past year. Tens of journalists are still arrested, and the aim of these policies is to prevent the truth from being published. Amed Co-Mayor Fırat Anlı also spoke during the ceremony, underlined the importance of Musa Anter’s struggle, and commemorated journalists that have been martyred during their work.
DTK Co-President Leyla Güven underlined the importance of continuing the struggle of journalists that have paid heavy prices in their search for the truth, and commemorated Musa Anter. After the speeches, DİHA reporter Azad Altay received his award in the category of Kurdish news, İzmir DİHA Bureau Chief Cihan Ölmez and Cumhuriyet Amed Correspondent Mahmut Oral received their awards in the category of Turkish news, JINHA employee Ferda Yılmazoğlu received the Gurbetelli Ersöz award, JINHA reporter Handan Tufan received her photography award, DİHA reporter Bilal Gündem received his footage award, Özgür Evran received his caricature award, Celal Başlangıç received the special jury awards, and Banu Güven received their Free Press Martyrs award on behalf of Aslı Erdoğan and Necmiye Alpay.
All of the journalists that received awards dedicated their awards to people that have lost their lives across spaces of resistance over the past year.
