Muhammed Cihad Cemre sent to prison

Muhammed Cihad Cemre, the son of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) İstanbul MP Hüda Kaya, has been remanded in custody.

Muhammed Cihad Cemre was taken into custody on 25 June on the grounds that he allegedly had his photos taken with the executives of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Held in detention for 2 days, Cemre was released on probation by a judgeship on duty in western Çanakkale province.

After the Çanakkale Chief Public Prosecutor's Office appealed against his release, Cemre was detained again on 29 June.

Referred to the courthouse, Muhammed Cihad Cemre has been arrested and sent to jail by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on duty.

HDP MP Kaya has denounced the decision on her social media account. "My son was first released as he was accused of the same charges for which he had been acquitted of years ago," she wrote, adding: "Following the warrant of the prosecutor, he was taken away again while working in the garden. The time will soon come when we will settle the accounts not under the law of the powerful, but when the law is powerful."
