Mobile Öcalan Library in Rome

In order to make the philosophy of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan known worldwide, 22 mobile libraries are currently touring Europe, Canada and Australia. One of the minibuses is currently in Italy's capital Rome.

One of several minibuses that are touring Europe, Canada and Australia as mobile libraries with books by Abdullah Öcalan and other information material about his life on the occasion of the actions around February 15 is currently in the Italian capital Rome. Members of the Kurdistan Committee Rome and Rete Kurdistan, an Italy-wide network in solidarity with the Kurdish freedom movement, set up an information stand at Piazza San Giovanni de Matha to present Öcalan's works. The square in the neighborhood of Trastevere was home to the working-class centuries ago.

Speeches highlighted the work and paradigm of Abdullah Öcalan and his efforts for a democratic solution to the Kurdish question. In order to make his philosophy better known, brochures with the PKK founder's ideas on alternative social systems were discussed and displayed. Special attention was paid to democratic confederalism, Öcalan's political project for the formation of a non-state society, which is also the cultural-organizational blueprint for a democratic nation.

A broad circle of supporters for the "Kurdish cause" exists in Italy. Öcalan had been in Rome for about two months during the course of the international plot. Tens of thousands of Kurds flocked to the Italian capital in droves during the winter of 1998/1999 despite the bad weather conditions and besieged the square near the Colosseum.

A total of 22 mobile Öcalan libraries are currently touring the globe to spread the paradigm of the PKK founder worldwide. In one week, it will be the 22nd anniversary of the soon to be 72-year-old's deportation from Kenya to Turkey in violation of international law. The slogan of the actions is: "The time has come! Freedom for Öcalan!"
