The United Democratic Forces and the British Alevi Federation sent an open letter to the Prime Minister’s Office in the UK, warning against the oppression of minorities in Syria by radical Islamist groups.
The letter highlighted the threats to the security of minorities in Syria and criticized the silence of the international community. The letter pointed out that HTS and similar radical groups are targeting Alevis, Kurds, Assyrians, Armenians, Turkmens, Christians, Yazidis, Druze and all minorities and attempting a genocide in the region using methods that disregard human values.
The letter drew attention to the oppression of minorities in Syria by radical Islamist groups, denouncing the burning of holy sites, the looting of places of worship and the destruction of cemeteries. It noted that Alevi villages are bombed, people are massacred and displaced, and these atrocities are taking place in front of the eyes of the world, and the international powers remain silent.
The letter called for Britain and international powers to take a more decisive stance against this lawlessness. It stressed that the transfer of millions of pounds of aid to groups such as HTS, which is on the list of terrorist organizations, is contrary to universal values and called for an immediate end to this support.
The United Democratic Forces and the British Alevi Federation demanded the UK to ensure that:
- support for extremist groups stops and investment is made in the equality and future of all peoples in Syria,
- humanitarian aid is delivered to the region instead of arms sales,
- medical teams provide support to all those in need, especially children,
- sanctions are imposed on Turkey to end its aggressive conduct in the region.
