Lawyers' march to Ankara continues

The unyielding protest of the lawyers has had an effect. The police barrier has been lifted and the demonstration to Ankara continues.

The march of the bar associations against the AKP-MHP regime's attempt to get the representation of lawyers under control continues. Since Monday morning, the lawyers had defied police attacks and blockade in front of the Ankara city entrance. Finally the regime gave in and let the police open the way for the lawyers.

The lawyers will walk into Ankara, then they will be taken in buses to the Atatürk mausoleum and continue their demonstration there.

Chairpersons of dozens of bar associations from all over the country started the march to Ankara last Friday from several provinces. They are protesting against a draft law by the Erdoğan regime that aims to bring the uncomfortable bar associations under state control. The lawyers criticize that this would restrict their rights. The draft law will change the balance of power in the associations committed to civil and human rights in favour of the government. However, the lawyers are not only against the reform, but also demand an independent judiciary.
