Lawyer Cemal Demir: Isolation imposed on Öcalan cannot be explained legally

Lawyer Cemal Demir said that the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan is of a special weight and depth that cannot be explained legally.

Lawyer Cemal Demir said that isolation is a primitive and inhumane practice, reminiscent of the medieval system of revenge, and that it should be abandoned. Demir noted that torture in Imrali is also within this scope.

The lawyer said there is no example of such severe and inhumane practices as İmralı in history, and added: “It is clear that the aim of this practice is to break the will of a person. Although this form of penalty is considered inhuman and torture in the universal law, unfortunately, when it comes to Abdullah Öcalan, the law can also be sacrificed to power and relations based on interstate interests. Abdullah Öcalan's legal situation is so deep and special that it cannot be explained in any way with the concept of "social isolation". Abandoning this primitive and inhumane system, which is reminiscent of the medieval revenge system, will be an important step in the name of universal human values.”
