Labour MP for Leeds North East and Shadow Minister for Peace and Disarmament, Fabian Hamilton, said in his speech in Westminster: "Donald Trump has chosen to abandon the Kurds, putting them at risk of annihilation at the hands of Turkey’s military might. Earlier this year, I urged the government to do everything it can to ensure the Kurds are protected."

Hamilton added: "The US withdrawal of forces in Syria puts the Kurdish YPG forces at risk of annihilation. The British government must continue to support Kurdish efforts to overcome Daesh in Syria and persuade our NATO ally Turkey to refrain from using its military power against the Kurds."
