Kurds march to the European Parliament, calling for action for Rojava

Kurds marched to the European Parliament against the invading Turkish state's occupation attacks against Rojava. KNK Co-President Ahmet Karamus warned of a human tragedy if the attacks are not stopped and demanded the EP to play its role.

Following the call of the Congress of Democratic Societies of Kurdistan in Europe (KCDK-E) and the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (TJK-E), Kurds and their friends travelled from Germany, France and the Netherlands and gathered in Brussels to protest against the invasion attacks against North-East Syria.

The mass gathered at Porte de Namur Square, unfurled banners drawing attention to the war crimes of the occupying Turkish state, and carried posters of Abdullah Öcalan, flags of the YPG and YPJ.

After a minute of silence in memory of the Kurdistan Freedom Martyrs, demonstrators marched to the European Parliament.

Swedish Left Party MP Jonas Sjöstelt and Basque Left Party MP Pernando Barrena made speeches and expressed their solidarity with Rojava against invasion attacks.

Fuat Omer, the European representative of the PYD (Democratic Union Party), pointed out that the attacks of the Turkish state once again revitalised ISIS and said, “International powers and the European Parliament should approach this issue seriously.”

Addressing the Kurds, Omer said, “This is not only Rojava's war, but also the Middle East's war for freedom. This is the war of all Kurdistan. This is the war of the peoples of Kurdistan.”

Ahmet Karamus, Co-Chair of the Kurdistan National Congress, said that the Turkish state aims to destroy the existence and identity of the Kurdish people in their own lands and to change the demography of Rojava with its attacks. Addressing the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and European public opinion, Karamus said: “If the attacks are not stopped, a human tragedy will occur.  We appeal to the European Union, if it plays its role, if it takes a stance against the attacks of the Turkish state, the human tragedy and massacres can be stopped.”
