Kurds in Sydney held congress on their way to create a federation

Democratic Kurdish Community Centers in 4 states of Australia have concluded the work to organise themselves in a federation.

A general congress was held on Sunday in Sydney with the participation of 31 delegates. Political parties, non-governmental organizations and religion institutions also attended the congress.

Suleyman Bingol, speaking on behalf of the presidency, said: “We are living historical days. We, as Kurds living in Sidney are taking a first important step in this process.”

Bingol added that a federation of the Kurdish people living in Australia would facilitate work within the island.

KCDK-E co-chair Yüksel Koç attended the congress via Skype and expressed his satisfaction with the work done in Sidney. Koç was one of the 14 Kurdish activists who joined the hunger strike resistance in Strasbourg.

Çiğdem Aslan and İsmet Taştan were elected co-chairs of the federation by the delegates.
