Kurds and Chileans protest in Uppsala

Kurds and Chileans held a joint demonstration in the Uppsala city of Sweden in protest at the repressive governments of Turkey and Chile.

Uppsala Democratic Kurdish Community Centre, Rojava Committee and Chilean Association organised a demonstration and rally in Uppsala city center in solidarity with the people of Rojava and Chile.

Speaking at the rally at Stora Square, Left Party MP Ilona Szatmari Waldau pointed out the Erdoğan regime’s increasing attacks and repression against the Kurdish people and democratic circles in Turkey, and the aggressive foreign policy of the Turkish government.

Waldau stressed that the Turkish government was dismissing the democratically elected mayors on one hand and committing a crime against humanity in Rojava on the other. Waldau voiced the Left Party’s call for the reinstatement of the removed mayors and the leave of the Turkish state and allied mercenaries from Rojava.

V. Nils from the Rojava Committee remarked that the Turkish state wanted to destroy the ecologist, egalitarian and just system built in Rojava under the lead of women by raising the lie of border security.

Nils called on the international community to take action in order for the Turkish forces and allied mercenaries to leave Rojava.

A speech made on behalf of the Chilean Association denounced the Pinera government’s economic policies that condemned people to poverty, calling for the resignation of the government and trial of the security forces who have murdered demonstrators.

Following the speeches, the crowd staged a march with flags of the Rojava, PKK, YPG/YPJ and Mapuches.
