Kurdish youth rally in Strasbourg against occupation and isolation

In Strasbourg, France, a demonstration was held against Turkey's attacks in southern Kurdistan at the call of the Kurdish youth movement. The central theme was also the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan.

In Strasbourg, France, a demonstration was staged today against the Turkish military aggression in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) on the call of the Kurdish youth movement. Hundreds of people from France, Switzerland and Germany took part in the demonstration organized by "Combatant Young Women" (Jinên Ciwan ên Têkoşer), "Revolutionary Youth Movement" (Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger) and the "Movement of Combatant Young Women" (TekoJIN).

The march was themed "Together to Uprising" and started at the Strasbourg train station. On banners and signs the background of the protest was thematized: "Stop Turkish expansionism", "Against the occupation of the Turkish state" and addressed to South Kurdistan’s ruling party KDP: "Stop collaboration with Ankara".

On April 23, the Turkish army launched the widespread attack on guerrillas and civilians in the Zap, Metina and Avashin regions. Dozens of villages have already been depopulated for new military roads and bases, and more than 1,500 people have been displaced. The HPG and YJA-Star guerrilla organizations are holding out against the occupation with various offensives. On a social level, the Kurdish youth movement is working to collectively oppose Turkey's expansionist policies.

The demonstration was accompanied by slogans in support of the guerrilla resistance and bengalos in the colors of the Kurdish movement. Another central concern of the demonstration was the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan. The leader of the Kurdish liberation movement has been completely isolated from his legal counsel again for almost two years. He has been subjected to a detention regime aimed at physical and physical destruction. The last lawyer meeting on Imrali took place on August 7, 2019 - for the first time after eight years of no contact. Öcalan received the last visit from his family on March 3, 2020, after which he was granted telephone contact with his relatives only twice.

The demonstration lasted about two hours, followed by a rally in Etoile Park. There was a lot of music, a political debate, dances and a concert by a band from the Kurdish Association in Paris.
