A demonstration was organized in Hamburg by the Kurdish youth movement Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger (TCŞ). The action was part of the “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question” campaign.
The march was supported by the Hamburg People’s Assembly, the Rojbin Women’s Assembly, and internationalist groups and began with a minute’s silence to honor Kurdish martyrs.
Speaking on behalf of TCŞ, Zelal Çewlîg underlined the need for Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom, and said: "Tomorrow will be too late; today is the time to free our leader. Join the ranks of resistance."
The activist also protested the silence of the international community. "Why is the world silent? NATO and the U.S. turned a blind eye, emboldening the Turkish government. But there’s something they forget: the courage and determination of the Apoist youth. I call on all young people to organize resistance, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, and break isolation."
Çewlîg concluded her speech by urging people to participate in a major rally for Öcalan’s freedom in Cologne on 16 November.
