Kurdish woman in French communist list for EP elections

Communist Party of France (PCF) has put up activist Kurdish woman Cemile Renklicay as a candidate for the European Parliament elections to be held in May.

The Communist Party of France has a wide array of candidates for the EP elections to be held on May 26. There are public and private sector workers, feminists, ecologists and internationalists on the PCF roster.

The PCF has two Kurdish women on the list of 79 candidates. Former France Democratic Kurdish Council Co-chair Cemile Renklicay stands out in the list. She is on the 12th spot.

The PCF list has been presented as, “White blouses, yellow vests, blue collars, black dresses, green boots and red cloaks, a rainbow of the struggle with strong representation of the world of labor”. The list header Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo’s Deputy for Housing Ian Brossat gave a short speech drawing attention to the struggle of the Kurdish people.

Brossat said he was glad HDP MP Leyla Guven was released from prison and added: “The isolation imposed upon Ocalan wasn’t ended.”

Brossat stressed that as communists they will always continue to show solidarity: “We will especially continue this solidarity with the upcoming European elections.”

Brossat said these elections should be “turned into a platform to discuss the unacceptable relationship between Turkey and the European Union” and added: “It is unacceptable that the European Union is acting as a partner to Erdogan’s crimes.”

“You can trust in French communists and their candidate Cemile Renklicay,” said Brossat and added: “Cemile is on the same list as me, and she will stand with me in our fight for these causes. You can trust in our solidarity.”
