Kobanê’s sister city Basque Country’s Gernika-Lumo town is holding Kurdish Week activities.
The program organised by a collaboration between Gernika municipality and Kurdish-Basque Friendship Association will start today with a discussion titled “The War Process in Syria and the Current State in Kurdistan”.
Thursday’s activities are titled “Women’s Place in the Kurdish Freedom Movement” and there will be a screening of Min Dît, a film about the state’s murders in Kurdistan, on Friday.
The activities in Gernika include a month long photography exhibition on the war and destruction and the resistance in Kobanê.
Gernika is one of the historically significant towns of Basque Country and was bombed by Nazi Germany supporting the fascists in 1937. The town, Guernica in English and Gernika in original Basque, was depicted in Picasso’s “Guernica” after the destruction.
Gernika-Lumo Municipality had developed relations with Kobanê after the ISIS invasion and had decided to become a sister city.
