In a written statement to march the 42nd anniversary of the PKK's establishment, the Confederation of Kurdistan Communities (KON-MED) in Germany said that the PKK "took the stage of history as a force of rebellion and struggle against the cultural genocidal policy that confronts the Kurds with extinction."
Noting that millions of people gathered around the PKK and saw that the PKK was consistent in its discourse, life and practice, KON-MED drew attention to the PKK's 42-year struggle and the 100-year Kurdish problem.
"There are basic demands to solve the Kurdish problem in terms of content". The recognition of the Kurds' existence, identity, language, and the freedom of the Kurdish culture to be constitutionally and legally guaranteed is a necessity for the acceptance of the Kurds as a people. The acceptance of self-government, that is, democratic autonomy, is the acceptance of education in mother tongue at all levels because it is a people that is at risk of destruction through cultural genocide. It cannot be said that denial and assimilation is over and cultural genocide is abandoned until these demands are met."
Underlining that the PKK, the Kurdish Freedom Movement, "always favours a democratic political solution", KON-MED continued: "The PKK has made efforts in this direction for nearly three decades. However, since the European Union, especially Germany, could not contribute to the solution of the Kurdish problem, and in fact continued the unjust ban on the PKK, the ground for massacre against the Kurds could not be eliminated.”
The statement reminded that “Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan explained what kind of solution he had in mind at Newroz 2013. He wanted the Kurdish people and the forces of democracy to embrace this solution and process. The AKP government has responded to this process with a narrow political mind-set.”
KON-MED, and ended with the following call: "The solution of the Kurdish issue and Turkey's democratization will have positive effects on the entire Middle East and the world. We call on the people of Kurdistan and the progressive democratic forces to celebrate the anniversary of the PKK foundation with colourful activities everywhere by using their democratic rights."
