The Co-Presidency of the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council released a statement regarding the current process in Kurdistan and Turkey regarding the solution to the Kurdish question and the democratization of Turkey and the therefore necessary physical freedom of peoples leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The KCK statement on Saturday includes the following:

"The delegation of the DEM Party, which went to Imrali and met with Rêber Apo (Leader Abdullah Öcalan) and afterwards had numerous related meetings with political parties and democratic mass organizations, shared the results of its work with the public with a statement. The meeting in Imrali and the statement made by the delegation have been widely covered in Kurdistan and Turkey and have been at the top of the agenda. In its statement, the delegation of the DEM Party pointed out that the talks they held with the political actors inside and outside the parliament, which were within the scope of Rêber Apo’s views and suggestions, were positive and that a strong will has emerged for the solution of the Kurdish question and the end of the war. They also stated that on the basis of the positive results, they will go to Imrali again and have another meeting with Rêber Apo. We see it as positive that the process has reached this stage and would like to express that we consider the support of all political parties and democratic mass organizations crucial for the solution of the Kurdish question and the end of the war. We see the emerging will as one of the cornerstones of the solution to the issue, and we support it.

The overcoming of the total isolation is the most crucial development of the process, which is an important stage that was reached through our struggle in the scope of the global freedom campaign. A breach has now been made in the total isolation, and Rêber Apo has been taken as an interlocutor by the state. Rêber Apo’s views and proposals on the solution of the Kurdish question, the end of the conflict, and the democratization of Turkey are being discussed and supported in the political arena. This is a historic development. The physical liberation of Rêber Apo, the solution of the Kurdish question, and the democratization of Turkey and the Middle East will be the most important and strategic development of our century.

The democratization of Turkey is closely linked to and only possible with the solution of the Kurdish question. The solution to the Kurdish question will not only pave the way for the democratization of Turkey, but will also be the basis for the democratization of the Middle East. In this historical period, in which the Middle East is being redesigned, creating such a development will be a historic step towards freedom, equality, brotherhood, democracy, revolution, and socialism. With this historical responsibility, it is necessary to support the process that Rêber Apo is trying to develop in order for it to succeed. First and foremost, revolutionary, democratic, and libertarian forces must embrace this process and work actively for its success. The concerns and doubts arising from the approaches of both the state and the government can be overcome by embracing the process and working actively. Revolutionary democratic forces should see themselves as primarily responsible for the success of this process, and on this basis, they should be its pioneers.

It is also important that the opposition in Turkey, particularly the CHP, embrace and support the process. As we understand from the statement made by the delegation of the DEM Party, the attitude of the opposition has been positive. In this regard, Rêber Apo has already emphasized the role of the opposition and the importance of the role that the parliament has in solving the issue.

These historic developments are a result of the global freedom campaign that was launched under the name of ‘Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question’. With the morale, enthusiasm, and joy of this historic result, we must further develop this global freedom campaign and work to bring the democratic solution of the Kurdish question to a conclusion on the basis of the physical freedom of Rêber Apo. We make this call once again to our people, our international friends, and all revolutionary democratic forces. We also call on the democratic forces of Turkey and the left-socialist movements to assume the leadership of the process, as required by their historical responsibilities, in order to ensure the success of the process developed by Rêber Apo, which aims to solve the Kurdish question and democratize Turkey."
