The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Co-presidency released a statement about the massive hunger strike and death fast action demanding the end of the isolation regime executed against Abdullah Öcalan that ended on Sunday following a call from the jailed Kurdish leader.

KCK recalled that all hunger strikers followed Öcalan's call and announced that they would continue their fight for the destruction of fascism and the liberation of Kurdistan by other means.

"As the Kurdish Liberation Movement, we congratulate Leyla Güven and all other activists for their successful resistance and wish them success in their further struggle," said the KCK which also commemorated “the martyrs that played a decisive role in achieving success for the first phase of the “Let’s break the isolation, smash fascism and free Kurdistan” campaign”.

“Our mothers, their daughters and sons in prisons, our people living in all four parts of Kurdistan and abroad, the Liberation Movement and the guerrillas made it clear that Abdullah Öcalan's isolation was unacceptable, said the statement and continued: "The Isolation of the Kurdish people will be broken and the struggle will continue without ceasing until genocidal fascism is defeated. That the isolation of Leader Apo is about the isolation of the peoples of Turkey has become easier to understand. In this regard, the fight against isolation has become the struggle of all the peoples of Turkey and the democratic forces. Democratic forces worldwide, intellectuals and artists who represent the conscience of mankind, have therefore taken a stand against isolation and supported the fight against isolation and fascism.”

The statement continued; “Our martyrs, resisting activists and those supporting the resistance have enforced the right to lawyer and family visits that is a universal and legal right and should be made permanent. The government has allowed these meetings in order to not be exposed further as thousands of people were nearing death.

As is emphasized by those resisting in prisons, the resistance has exposed the isolation to be illegitimate and unlawful, and rendered it untenable and unenforceable. This is the very reality that has enabled the meeting. Even if the AKP government wants to benefit from the visits to Imrali in the new elections in Istanbul, our people and the democratic forces know very well that it is the fight given against this government which executes the isolation that has enforced this meeting.”

According to KCK, the attorney talks on Imrali have once again shown that Abdullah Öcalan's political position plays a key role in democratizing Turkey and resolving the Kurdish question. "Everyone has seen that Leader Apo can play his role in this direction with the complete removal of the isolation. It goes without doubt that whether Leader Apo can play this role or not depends on the uninterrupted continuation of the struggle for democratization. His ideas can only be implemented if a democratic way of thinking and politics emerge. In order to put his thoughts into practice, the democratic forces must unite and intensify their joint struggle.”

Referring to Öcalan's remarks that Mahatma Gandhi also developed the social struggle with hunger strikes, KCK continued; “Leader Apo says the struggle can develop and produce results when a social movement is built. Therefore, after the end of the hunger strike other means, ways and methods of struggle must arise.

"As Öcalan proposed during the meeting, a democratic Turkey and a free Kurdistan can only be built by countering the genocidal mindset and politics and practices of fascism through democratic politics and democratic negotiations. Because Öcalan’s proposals cannot be put into practice without countering fascism.

For this reason, we must enhance and further popularize the “Let’s break the isolation, smash fascism and free Kurdistan” struggle that has achieved a result in its first stage, and integrate more parts of society and democratic forces into it.

It has been shown that we cannot live side by side with isolation and a huge blow has been inflicted against the conditions to carry on the isolation.

Now is the time to create completely free living and working conditions for Leader Apo. On the basis of destroying fascism, the responsibility must be fulfilled to strengthen the fight for the democratization of Turkey and the liberation of Kurdistan.”
