The Congress of Democratic Societies of Kurdistan in Europe (KCDK-E) issued an urgent call regarding the police raid on Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV studios in Belgium, saying, "Our people should take immediate action to claim their voice and will."
The statement released by KCDK-E on Tuesday reads as follows:
"We call on our people to embrace our televisions against the silencing of the free press.
Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV studios in Belgium, which are the eyes and voice of the Kurdish people, were raided and blockaded by the police at midnight.
We condemn the raid and blockade in the middle of Europe of Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV, the voice of the Kurdish people, by the Belgian state, which talks about democracy, human rights and freedoms.
The Belgian state should immediately abandon this anti-democratic attitude and stop its efforts to intimidate Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV, which are watched by the Kurds and millions of people.
Our people should take immediate action by claiming their own voice and will and mobilise to protect their TV channels. We urgently call on our people living in Europe to stand with Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV."
