Italian newspaper Il Manifesto publishes full page declaration for Öcalan

The Freedom for Öcalan Campaign invites all politicians, civil society and the wider international community to act before it is too late.

On occasion of the anniversary of the international conspiracy against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, a full-page declaration demanding 'Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan' was published in Italian left-wing newspaper Il Manifesto.

The declaration published by Il Manifesto, one of Italy's most renowned and prominent newspapers, was penned by the Freedom for Öcalan Committee, the Kurdistan-Italy Friendship Committees Network, and the Italy-Kurdistan Information Office

The declaration says:

"The situation is getting out of control in Turkey and in the Middle East. The international community must act immediately to end the violence and bloodshed.

No one suffered from this aggression more than the Kurdish population.

Despite their heroic efforts to defeat ISIS in the battlefield and to build a new society in North-East Syria, and their repeated calls for a peaceful solution, the world did not stand by their side when the Kurds were attacked and massacred. Ethnic cleansing was carried out by the Turkish army and its gangs.

Between 2013 and 2015, there was a peace process between the Turkish government and the imprisoned Kurdish political leader Abdullah Öcalan, but President Erdoğan suddenly left the table to return to violence and said everything was over.

The time has come to end Abdullah Öcalan's 20 years of imprisonment and inhuman isolation and to let him play his vital role in maintaining peace.

The Freedom for Öcalan Campaign invites all politicians, civil society and the wider international community to act before it is too late.

Join the campaign to promote peace and to support our call.

The Freedom for Öcalan Campaign highlighted the following demands:

- Immediate end of isolation and release of imprisoned Kurdish political leader Abdullah Öcalan,

- The end of the political persecution against all dissident figures and the release of all political prisoners held in Turkish prisons,

- The end of Turkish military operations in northeastern Syria and in Iraq,

- Initiation of a new peace process with full international participation and support.
