The Israeli army statement said a Syrian Sukhoi jet entered 2 km into Israeli airspace and was downed with a Patriot missile.

Before the statement, the Israeli air defense system had been activated and sirens had been heard along the Golan border under Israeli invasion.

According to Syrian news agency Sana, Israel launched a missile at a fighter jet that was carrying out an operation against “terrorists” in the field. A military source spoke to Sana and said the missile targeted a jet in Syrian airspace.

Another Syrian military source spoke to the Russian news agency Sputnik and said the jet was targeted while it was in Syrian airspace, engaged in an anti-ISIS operation.
