Isolation of Ocalan protested in Welsh Assembly and BBC

Kurdish activist Imam Sis continues his indefinite non-alternating hunger strike on day 84 as protests were held in front of the Welsh Assembly and the BBC building with the same demands.

A group of Welsh allies held a protest in Welsh capital Cardiff in solidarity with the Kurdish hunger strikers. The protesters gathered in front of the Welsh Assembly and marched to the BBC Wales offices for civil disobedience.

The group wore t-shirts with the hunger strikers’ photographs and held a large banner with photographs of Kurdish Peoples’ Leader Abdullah Ocalan as well as Leyla Guven’s and other hunger strikers’. Some members of the group entered the Assembly to meet with MPs.

The group then marched to the BBC offices in Cardiff and held a civil disobedience demonstration there.

The Kurdish Popular Assembly Wales attended both protests and stated that the hunger strikers are giving a lesson in humanity and challenge fascism.

The statement also said: “The noble and brave mothers and children of Kurdistan decided to resist 125 days ago in defiance of the aggravated isolation conditions imposed upon Kurdish Peoples’ Leader Abdullah Ocalan. They said Leader Apo’s freedom is their freedom, and started a resistance that will result in victory with a dignified struggle. They didn’t fear for their own bodies, they defied death with no concern for their own selves, and challenged fascism as a lesson for humanity.”

The statement continued: “We will never accept a life without Leader Apo. His freedom is our freedom. Today is the day to fight, the day to settle our conscience, uphold our honor, the day to free Leader Apo. Our comrades on the hunger strike have struck a great blow to fascism with their historic move. It is in our hands to take this move to victory. It is our duty and responsibility to keep these comrades alive. Comrade Imam said before, it’s not the hunger that would kill them, it’s the lack of consciousness. We take this as a serious criticism and take it as a fundamental humane and honorary duty to include ourselves in the process. In this month of resistance, we are calling on our people to be more conscious and participate in protests.”
