According to the INA news agency, Iraqi forces said in a statement that the “source of the explosion” had not been determined, but that “air traffic” was continuing “normally.”
The statement added that “no flights were disrupted.” A security source said it was a rocket attack.
The explosion occurred just hours before Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was set to visit Iraq. Pezeshkian landed in Baghdad this morning, making his first overseas visit.
The United States has about 2,500 troops in Iraq as part of a coalition formed in 2014 to combat ISIS. The alliance also includes troops from other countries, including France and the United Kingdom.
