Iraqi Parliament votes to ban Kurdish oil company from Kirkuk

Iraq's Parliament issued a non-binding directive Monday to prevent the Kurdish company KAR Group from continuing any work in Kirkuk oil fields.

The measure does not legally require the government to take any action, but it passed with broad support, indicating a political climate in Baghdad that remains hostile to the prospect of reconciliation with the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Southern Kurdish have withdrawn from most Kirkuk oilfields since October but the vote came after lawmakers said the Kar Group refused to cooperate with Iraq’s state-run North Oil Co. (NOC) and hand back the Khurmala oilfield.
