Iran opposes Turkish military operation in Syria

Iranian Foreign Minister Jawad Zarif has expressed opposition to a Turkish military operation against North and East Syria.

According to the website of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, that he was opposed to a possible military operation by Turkey against northern and eastern Syria. Zarif called on Turkey to “respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria."

The Iranian foreign minister also “stressed the need for the fight against terrorism and for the establishment of stability and security in Syria.”

He pointed at the Adana Agreement as the right mechanism to resolve issues between Turkey and Syria.
