Ipekyolu trustee orders demolition of hundreds of stables

Hundreds of breeders suffered losses of thousands of Turkish liras because of the demolition while animals were left outside.

The trustee appointed to Ipekyolu Municipality, Sinan Aslan, ordered the destruction of hundreds of stables in the district, the biggest in Van, with a population of 400 thousand.

The trustee destroyed 110 barns in the neighbourhood of Buzhane. It is stated that hundreds more stables will be demolished further.

Ipekyolu trustee, Sinan Aslan, also said that the breeders who had the barn destroyed would be charged with illegal construction penalty and demolition at 20 percent interest.

A farmer, who did not want to be named for security reasons, said: “We have been breeding livestock for hundreds of years. We have been doing this in our village before. We had to migrate to Van center due to the forced village evacuations and banning of springs. Here, we made a barn paying a lot of money for it. We started animal husbandry in these stables. Now they started to demolish our barns. They demolished our stables, now where are we going to put our animals? How are we going to breed?"
