Internationalists met hunger strikers in Strasbourg

“We are the people who have been affected by Öcalan's democratic confederalism idea. The isolation against Öcalan is actually an isolation against all peoples. We want to see Öcalan free.”

Reaching Luxembourg from different countries, 75 internationalists who joined the long march, arrived in Strasbourg.

A delegation from the Internationalists group visited the 14 Kurdish activists who have been on hunger strike in Strasbourg for 61 days.

Christina Reed, one of the internationalists who spoke during the visit, said that internationalists shared the same feelings of the hunger strikers and had marched for five days with the same demands.

“We are the people who have been affected by Öcalan's democratic confederalism idea”, said Reed underlining the silence of the international media on the hunger strikes and long marches.

“The isolation against Öcalan is actually an isolation against all peoples. - she added - We want to see Öcalan free.”

Reed commended the hunger strikers and said: ”Your action is a very honorable and courageous. International public opinion and institutions should act. Because what is going on in Turkey is an open fascism. We'll do our best.”

Professor Gian Luigi Seriana said: “I have spent my life within youth movements. When I see a young resistance, I see my own children.”

Seriana added: “I promise you here; I will continue to fight until I get a result.”

Journalist and hunger striker Gülistan Ike spoke on behalf of the 14 Kurdish activists. She said that it gave activists morale to see that they have met thanks to the ideas of Öcalan and confirmed that the hunger strike continues with determination.

Hunger striker Kardo Bokanî told internationalists that they have resorted to such an action as no other option was left to pave the way towards a solution. Bokanî considered the silence of the European institutions on the attacks by the Turkish state as "lack of human value.”

After the visit the delegation of internationalists joined the other marchers.

The various marches merged together in Strasbourg and walked to the Council of Europe.
