Internationalist young people interrupt EU Parliament session to demand freedom for Öcalan

Internationalist young people interrupted the EU Parliament session to denounce Turkey’s assault on Rojava and called for the freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Internationalist young people interrupted the EU Parliament session in Strasbourg to demand the release of Abdullah Öcalan and the imposition of sanctions on the Turkish state that committed war crimes in Rojava.

Holding a poster of Leader Öcalan and a banner reading “Freedom for Öcalan, a peaceful solution to the Middle East - Stop World War III” and chanting slogans, the young activists were supported by many parliamentarians who greeted them.

During the action, leaflets containing information about the Imrali isolation, torture and genocide system were distributed.

The activists said: "We call on the European Union to fulfill its democratic obligations and respect international human rights treaties. We call on the Turkish state to condemn its war crimes and its ongoing occupation of Northern and Eastern Syria and to impose sanctions. We demand pressure on Turkey and the release of Abdullah Öcalan, who is the key to a democratic dialogue between peoples. His safety and working conditions must be guaranteed and all representatives of the people must be included in the negotiation process. Without these conditions, peace cannot be created in the Middle East."
