International İmralı Committee takes over 'Freedom For Öcalan Vigil'

The International İmralı Support committee will attend the Freedom For Öcalan Vigil and conduct a series of meetings with the Council of Europe and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture in order for ending the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan.

The International İmralı Committee support group, which includes legendary leader Nelson Mandela’s lawyer Essa Moosa, has arrived in Strasbourg, France. The committee members will attend the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil and conduct a series of meetings with officials from the Council of Europe. The committee will also meet with the executives of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture.

The committee, headed by South Africa’s historic leader Nelson Mandela’s lawyer Essa Moosa, started their meetings yesterday and will continue until April, 22. The International İmralı Committee will meet with CPT officials, Council of Europe Secretary General, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe members and political groups.

Meetings will be held with political groups in the Council of Europe, the Secretary General and the Human Rights Rapporteur.

20 MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE TAKE OVER THE VIGIL

The committee is comprised of 40 people, most of whom are lawyers and academics from different countries around the world. 20 of the committee members will conduct meetings with the Council of Europe, the CPT and the European Parliament. The remaining 20 members have taken over the Freedom for Öcalan vigil that has been going on since June 2012 outside Council of Europe.

THE PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES SEMINARS

Parallel to the meetings, the committee will also attend seminars. Committee members will be giving seminars on democratic confederalism on Tuesday, jineology on Wednesday and law on Thursday.

There will also be a mass rally in front of the Council of Europe starting from 9.00 a.m.

Meanwhile, HDP MPs Ertuğrul Kürkçü and Filiz Kerestecioğlu are attending the sessions of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.

DAVUTOĞLU WILL BE MET WITH PROTESTS

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu’s visit in Strasbourg on April 19 will be met with protest rallies.

During a scheduled talk from Davutoğlu in the parliament, the international committee demanding freedom for Öcalan will be holding a parallel meeting. The committee will be talking about Öcalan’s situation and the reality in Turkey.
